Sophie L. Scribner GROTON - Sophie Lacordia Scribner, 92, of Groton, beloved wife of the late Raymond V. Scribner, passed away Wednesday , March 14, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born in Stonington, CT on November 14, 1919 the daughter of Antone and Rose (Bekeziuk) Kupidlowski. She attended local schools and graduated from Stonington High School. She worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and at the Hartford National Bank in New London as a teller where she retired in 1979. Sophie enjoyed twenty-five years of retirement in Winter Park, FL before returning home. She was very active in bridge groups with her sister Genie and many of her friends while in Florida. She married Raymond V. Scribner in June of 1938 in New London and resided in Quaker Hill where they raised their children on Smith Cove where they shared their love of boating. Raymond’s home building occupation blossomed in the years ahead while he built several subdivisions all the while Sophie was doing the books. She and her family were members of the United Methodist Church in New London. She leaves her sons William Scribner; of Quaker Hill and Guy Scribner of Lyme and a daughter; Martha Casady of Colchester, CT, and grandchildren; Megan R. Kahn and her husband Benjamin of Denver, CO, Dale R. Casady of Colorodo Springs, CO, and Roland P. Allen of Bolton, CT and Jamie J. Alpha of Old Lyme, and her Great Grandson Joshua R. Casady and Great Granddaughters; Lexy ,Paige and Olivia Alpha. The family would like to thank the staff of the Groton Regency for all their loving care and support for the past six years and especially her roommate Tina. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. There are no calling hours. A celebration of her life and private burial in Union Cemetery , Quaker Hill will be held at a later date.
