Joseph Mehalick, at age 91, received his final orders from his Supreme Commander and has departed on Eternal Patrol, Sailor rest your oar. Joe was born in Sandy Run, PA and was a decorated Submarine Veteran. He served on the USS Albacore, Razorback & Seawolf. He retired from the Navy as a Master Chief in 1961. Joe spent the next 20 years at Electric Boat as a Nuclear Power Training Instructor. He was a resident of Groton CT since 1952 and is survived by 2 sons, Joseph W. Mehalick, East Hampton, CT and Gary A. Mehalick, Ashville, NC, daughter-in-laws Susan Mehalick and Suzanne Mehalick, and grandchildren, Andrew Mehalick, Stephanie Mehalick and Elizabeth Ibarra. Joe was a life member of the Groton Sportsman’s Club, Mystic VFW, Sub Vets WWII, and a member of the prestigious Holland Club which recognizes 50 years of Submarine Service. Joe is united once again with his wife of 61 years, Clara Mehalick. May they sail in peace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 until 10:30 on Tuesday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment will be private.
