Stephen L. Kaika, 57, passed away peacefully in his home on June 12, 2012. Steve was born in New London, CT on Feb. 11, 1955, son of the late Stephen W. Kaika and late Stacia B. (Konikowski) Kaika. He grew up in Quaker Hill, CT, and attended Waterford schools. His passion for his work and love of music showed in his every endeavor, especially in his 34 years as bass player of The Reducers. He was also an accomplished and creative carpenter. For 10 years Steve worked at Robertson Paper Box in Montville, gaining the skills and experience to form his own business, S.K Contracting. When not working he also enjoyed bbq, fishing, reading and cycling. Steve is survived by his wife, Charlene Holmes, son and daughter in-law, Nicholas and Melissa Kaika; their expected child, daughter Melissa Rioux-Kaika ; her four children, and step daughter Gina Holmes. Steve also leaves behind sister and brother-in-law; Judith and John Crossley of Andover, MA, brother Len Kaika and Lorraine Ryan of Burlington, NC, brother and sister in-law; John and Nancy Kaika of Norwich, many nieces, nephews, and a large loving extended family. Steve leaves behind his countless friends and fans that he always considered family. A memorial celebration, open to all, will be held on Friday June 15 at 6pm at the Hygienic Art Park, 79 Bank St., New London. A private celebration will be held at a later date.
