MYSTIC - Jean E. (Kistler)Murphy, 87, formerly of Mystic passed away peacefully May 26, 2012 at the Groton Regency Nursing Center. She was born March 22, 1925 and raised in Northampton PA, she was the daughter of late Armiger R. and Ida E. (Fenstermaker) Kistler. Jean was a graduate of Northampton High School and from the old Haff Hospital Nursing School. She was married June 24, 1950 to the late Lt Joseph M. Murphy who died in 2002. In addition to her nursing career, for many years Jean worked as a cashier at Lee’s Kiddie Land in Groton. Jean is survived by her daughters Kristie Smith of Groton, Kori Jackson and her husband Keith of Madison, CT; her sons Kim Murphy of Stonington, CT and Kerry Murphy of North Branford, CT; 8 grandchildren, Brian, Brittany, Chad, Heather, Justin, Kelly, Kyle, Tyler; 5 great-grandchildren, Giuliana, Joey, Mason, Michael, Tyler; and her lifelong friend Jean Raubenhold of Allentown, PA. The family would like to thank the staff at the Groton Regency for the wonderful care they provided and for helping Jean spend her last years here with peace, dignity and unconditional friendship. A memorial service for family and friends will be at St Marks’s Church 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT, on Friday June 1 at 10 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that Jean’s friends and family perform a random act of kindness each day as a remembrance to Jean and the natural kindness she exuded.
